WASHINGTON: The Democratic party has begun wooing Indian Americans to increase their participation in its 2004 convention. Democratic National Committee chairman Terrence McAuliffe held a teleconference with more than 75 Indian Americans nationwide ahead of the 2004 Democratic National Convention. The conference call was organised by the Indian American Leadership Initiative (IALI), a Washington-based political awareness group. "The audience of the 2004 Democratic Convention will be the face of America," said McAuliffe to participants, according to IALI sources. "I want to double or triple the number of Indian Americans at this year's convention. That won't happen unless you and your friends in the community run to be a delegate." Indian Americans number about two million, most of whom are Democrats.
