3. Costa Coffee

Costa Coffee, the largest British chain and the second largest coffeehouse in the world, made its way to India in September 2005; it tied up with ‘Devyani International’.

Costa Coffee was founded by the Italian brothers, Sergio and Bruno Costa in Lambeth, London in the year 1971. In the beginning days, it used to supply roasted coffees to different caterers and other Italian shops. By the year 1978, the Italian brothers opened their first coffee shop in Vauxhall Bridge Road, London.

By the year 1995, Costa Coffee extended its reach to twenty-eight countires and was having 1700 stores at different locations across the globe. In the same year, ‘Whitbread’ acquired Costa Coffee. In December, 2009, Costa acquired ‘Coffee Heaven’ and added seventy-nine stores to its chain.

Across the United Kingdom, Costa has around 1,375 restaurants and 2,500 Costa Express Vending machines. Apart from all these, Costa has around 442 stores in twenty-eight different countries.

In India, Costa Coffee has stores across Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Gurgaon, Noida, Jaipur and Agra.
