Biocon net marginally up in second quarter

Bangalore: Biocon Ltd, the country's leading biotechnology firm, posted 360 million (approx $8 million) during the second quarter (July-September) of the current fiscal, registering a marginal increase of 1.5 percent over the same period last year. In a notification to the BSE and NSE here Wednesday, the company said its total sales during the quarter (Q2) increased to 2.2 billion from 1.8 billion in the same period year ago, posting year-on-year (YoY) growth of 22 percent. For the first half (April-September) of this fiscal, net sales increased to 4.03 billion from 3.33 billion in the same period of the last fiscal (FY 2006), posting YoY growth of 21 percent. The net profit for the first half, however, declined to 636 million from 683 million, registering a negative growth of eight percent.
