NEW DELHI: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited has bagged a $100 million contract to set up a 120 mw co-generation power plant for captive use of PT Merak Energi Group in Indonesia.

The Navratna (prestigious) PSU secured the order amid intense competition from Chinese suppliers.

The sea-side plant would produce power and steam for use in process industry.

PT Merak Energi will work closely with BHEL to take over and operate the plant on completion, BHEL said in a statement in New Delhi.

BHEL entered the Indonesian market in 2002 and has so far supplied 90,000 mw of power generating capacity in the Southeast Asian country.
