New Delhi: Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba's (LeT) operative Mohammed Umer Madni, arrested in Delhi, is a close aide of the outfit's founder Hafiz Saeed, police said Friday. The LeT is accused of masterminding attack on Mumbai Nov 26,2008 that killed at least 170 people. Madni, 50, was arrested near the historic Qutab Minar in south Delhi Thursday by police's special cell. "Madni is a close associate of LeT chief Hafiz Saeed and was a key operative of the outfit in Nepal," said a senior police officer. Madni was arrested based on intelligence inputs and Delhi Police is interrogating him, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Alok Kumar told IANS. "Though no arms and ammunition were recovered from Madni, he was found to be in possession of a diary, a Nepali driving licence, an identity card, fake Nepali and Indian currency," Kumar said.
