LONDON: European passenger aircraft maker Airbus is planning to outsource 60 percent of its production, a majority of which will come to India to gain a bigger foothold in one of the world’s fastest growing aviation market, a senior official has said.

The Toulouse, France based company plans to build more parts for its aircraft outside Britain to help it achieve higher growth. Company chief executive Gustav Humbert said Airbus is looking to outsource up to 60 percent of its production but has emphasized that the company would retain what he called "core competencies."

Humbert said Airbus intended to outsource about five percent of the production of its A350 aircraft to India and roughly three percent to Russia. Airbus currently has 143 commitments for the A350 from 10 customers.
