New Delhi: Power and automation technology company ABB India has bagged a 4.55-billion smelter order to supply automation and power products, systems and solution to Vedanta Aluminium for expansion of its aluminium smelter plant at Jharsuguda in Orissa. In a regulatory statement Tuesday, ABB said it will design, build, supply and commission 24 sets of high power diode rectifier systems for four aluminium potlines (a row of electrolytic cells). ABB has already supplied rectifier systems for the first phase of the Jharsuguda plant expansion in 2007-08. After the completion of the second phase of the expansion by 2010, Vedanta's total smeltering capacity will be approximately 1.7 million tonnes per annum, making it one of the largest aluminium plants in the world.
