#8 ZeroAccess

ZeroAccess is one of the fastest growing botnets across the globe. Reports suggest that ZeroAccess has grown from 1 million to more than 2 million networking nodes. The botnet primarily uses ad-click type of hacking. Victims are lured into clicking ads that pops up during browsing. These ads are seen across untrusted websites, as these website owners gets paid at each click. Later the botnet unshackles the victims safeguard and enters into the system. In July 2012, Kindsight Security Labs reported that victims of ZeroAccess were downloading the bandwidth equivalent of 45 movies per month.

#9 TDL-4 (TDSS or Alureon)

Fact: The latest version of TDL-4 has directly infected over 250,000 victims

The TDL-4 is one of the latest botnets that made news across the tech world. Also known as TDSS or Alureon, the TDL-4 once installed removes all the competing malware from the system and then later hides itself from the antivirus, and then installs a master boot record. According to security agencies, the TDL-4 has infected approximately 250,000 unique victims and can generate C&C domain names, making it especially difficult to track.
