7 Million Dollar Business Ideas

Innocent Drinks

Founders: Richard Reed, Adam Balon, Jon Wright

Richard, Adam and Jon–friends from Cambridge and by then well settled in plum jobs decided to go on a snowboarding holiday and came back with an irresistible business idea: make natural, delicious and healthy fruit based drinks. Over a period of six months and spending $500, they worked on smoothie recipes in the kitchen. At the end of the six months, they carried the potential recipes to a music festival, where they put up a stall with the name—‘should we quit our jobs to make these smoothies?’ They keep two bins for the costumers to throw empty glasses into, one reading: yes and the other reading: no. At the end the ‘yes’ bin gets filled and only three glasses goes into the ‘no’ bin. They quit their jobs the next day and started writing the business plan. After the initial hiccups, they found an investor in businessman Maurice Pinto, who pumped in $2, 50,000.

Currently, the company is selling smoothies, juices and veg pots with market share of 75 percent. In April 2009, Coca Cola bought a stake in innocent and currently Coca Cola is the 90 percent stake holder in Innocent Drinks.
