5.Gurudongmar Lake One of the highest lakes in the world (located at 17,100 ft altitude), Gurudongmar lake is located in the state of Sikkim close to the Chinese border. It comes on a high plateau region northeast to the Kanchenjunga range and is encircled by snow capped mountains. This snow-fed lake is one of the main sources of Sikkim's most important Tista river. The lake is considered sacred by both Buddhists and Hindus.

Gurdongmar Lake is about 9 hour drive from Sikkim's capital Gangtok. The Lake has no hotels due to extreme inhospitable environment. Accommodation can be availed at Lachen, where you can stay overnight and visit the lake early in the morning and back. The lake can only be visited through packaged tours.
