2.Dal Lake This Urban lake nicknamed 'Jewel in the crown of Kashmir' is an important tourist hub. The lake is surrounded by mountains and is one of the most beautiful spots in India. The lake has many house boat facilities allowing tourists to reside on the lake in an environment of tranquility. It is also famous for its gardens and orchards laid along its shores. If you are a tourist wishing to spend a peaceful time after months of hectic schedule, then Dal Lake should feature in your holiday list.

Dal Lake is spread over an area of 26 sq. km, and is 8 km long and 4 km wide. It is divided into two parts called Lokut (small) and Bod (big). The shores are really fertile and vegetables such as potato, pumkin, cucumber are grown here. The lake has another interesting feature called the 'floating gardens'. These artificial islands make for a wonderful sight. They grow melons and many vegetable. The Lake has many floating hotels which could make for a fascinating stay. There are also many restaurants and hotels that have sprung up around the lake. The Valley lake is connected to the rest of the country by NH1A. The highway has many buses and taxis plying that take you through some scenic spots on the way to the lake across the mountains.
