The celebrations of Holi at Shantiniketan are known as Vasant Utsav. The Nobel-laureate Rabindranath Tagore introduced this beautiful occasion as an annual event in his Bishwabharati University in Shantiniketan in order to mark the spirit of Holi as the spring festival (Vasant Utsav). The students of the institution get dressed in colorful dresses and celebrate Holi in a very special way every year. The celebrations include cultural programs like songs and dance performances, group choreography, etc. The programs are followed by the members of the university daubing one another with colors. Since the commencement of Vasanta Utsav, it has become a landmark in the Bengali history. It has also captured international interest that is confirmed by the presence of many foreign tourists during its celebration. In West Bengal Holi is celebrated a day before the actual day of the festival.
