5 Movements That Awaken Millions Of Indians

Salt Satyagraha, 1930:

The Salt March, also known as the Salt Satyagraha was an important part of the Indian independence. The movement, which began with the Dandi March on 12 March 1930, was a direct action campaign of tax resistance and nonviolent protest against the British salt monopoly in colonial India. The march was led by ‘Father of the Nation,’ Mahatma Gandhi from his base, Sabarmati Ashram near Ahmadabad, to the sea coast near the village of Dandi. As he continued on the 24-day covering 240-miles (390 km) march to produce salt without paying the tax, massive number of Indians joined him along the way and triggered the wider Civil Disobedience Movement. On 5 April 1930 when Gandhi broke the salt’s law, it sparked large scale acts of civil disobedience against the British Raj by millions of Indians. The campaign had a significant effect on the changing world and caused large numbers of Indians to join the fight.
