Sister Nivedita

Original name: Margaret Elizabeth Noble

Sister Nivedita came into this world on 20th October, 1867. This Irish lady was the most famous disciple of swami Vivekananda.  She came to India in the year 1898 after she met Vivekananda in London who named her “Nivedita” meaning Dedicated to God. He was the one who inspired her to contribute for the welfare of the Indian women . She was greatly Impressed by Vivekananda’s teachings that ignorance, selfishness and greed pave way for our sufferings.

Because of her spirituality and service to humanity she was named “Sister Nivedita.” She established school for girls, who were deprived of even basic education. She also struggled to bridge the gap and put an end to the caste distinctions.  She died on October 13, 1911
