Qualcomm Selling its Handset Business to Kyocera
Qualcomm, in 1999, decided to sell its mobile phone manufacturing division to Japanese handset maker Kyocera which showed that Qualcomm wanted to concentrate on the more profitable arenas. Qualcomm now focuses on developing and licensing the wireless technologies and selling ASICs that implement them. As of now, Kyocera has made its mark in the smartphone industry and Qualcomm reported an increase of 35 percent. Qualcomm now doesn't focus on making phones; it just makes the chips which make the phones functional.
