T-Mobile announced its plan to promote its HSPA+ data service as a "4G" service, which generated a lot outburst in the industry. The reason stated by the company was that, the speed delivered by the HSPA+ was equivalent with that being offered by the competitors offering 4G. In 2010, it started promoting the HSPA+ 21 as "4G" network and was criticized by AT&T and Sprint as a marketing gimmick rather than a technological advancement. Though T-Mobile was able to attract a lot of attention to its HSPA+ , it also led to the creation of a lot of confusion in the industry.
