5 CEOs Who Came Back To Rescue Their Dying Companies

#3 Mother of all comebacks, Steve Jobs return to Apple

In 1983, Jobs lured John Sculley away from Pepsi-Cola to serve as Apple's CEO, asking, "Do you want to sell sugar water for the rest of your life, or do you want to come with me and change the world?"

But soon the disappointing sales caused deterioration in Jobs's working relationship with Sculley, which devolved into a power struggle between the two.

In 1985 Sculley along with other board members connived to fire Jobs. He left Apple and founded NeXT the same year.

In 1996, Apple announced that it would buy NeXT for $427 million. The deal was finalized in late 1996, bringing Jobs back to the company he co-founded. Jobs became the CEO of Apple, leading the company all the way to become the most valuable company in the world and he remained at the top positions till his death.
