5 Captivating Indian Startup Stories

#4 Yepme

Yepme is an online only apparel store which is unparalleled in the Indian market. Yepme has raised two rounds of funding thus far, including a reported $5.9 million second round. Unlike its competitors, Yepme’s apparel brand is focused on tier-II and tier-III towns where its relatively new and unheard-of brand can still hope to gain the trust of first-time buyers. It sells directly as well as through multiple other online stores, thus expanding its reach.

The company was launched in April 2010 by three alumni of IITs and IIMs; Mr. Vivek Gaur, Mr. Sandeep Sharma, and Mr. Anand Jadhav. In an interview with Bloomberg UTV, Mr. Gaur revealed that in 2010 when they spotted the tremendous growth of online retail stores, the founders decided to focus on private-label fashion-wear instead of branded apparel. Seeing larger brands handing over end-of-lifecycle products to online retailers; the founders decided to promote the Yepme brand as private-label apparel brand.

The brand is targeting a turnover of $25 Million in its first year of operations and plans to scale the revenues to over $500 Million in the next 3–4 years.
