Microsoft vs. Motorola:

Microsoft filed a complaint against Motorola with the International Trade Commission alleging Motorola for infringement of 9 patents. Motorola replied next month by filing its own suit against Microsoft with the International Trade Commission for infringing 16 of its patents. As a result of this battle, the Us Trade Panel has imposed an import ban on Motorola’s 18 infringing phones.

These patent battles illustrate how the Smartphone industry has become a vulnerable market with all the big names in the industry trying to tow each other. This might benefit the companies but ultimately such battles lead to bring innovation to a standstill and also affect the consumers leaving them with restricted options to choose from.
