Motorola jumped into the patent wars by filing a complaint against Apple that was widely looked upon as an anticipatory hit. Apple countersued Motorola the same month but the Federal Judge cancelled their trial and discarded their injunction requests writing in his opinion that neither side could prove any damages caused by the other party. He also barred the companies from reopening the case to prove the damages. The decision came as a big blow to Apple who was hoping to gain an upper hand in the Smartphone business. Motorola was purchased by Google in 2012.
