31 Percent of Rural Indians Have Not Heard About Internet

Bangalore: More than half of the Indian internet users access Internet through mobile phones. This dramatic growth in the digital world ever since the introduction of mobile internet is a clear indication of India’s progress in technology, says ‘We Are Social- Media Marketing and Communication agency’ in its latest report.

The report has compiled various studies from India Census 2011; Google; Internet and Mobile Association of India, April 2011; UN data, November 2011; Internet World Stats 2011; Telecom Regulatory Authority of India June 2011etc.

Only 8 percent of India has Internet accessibility, but there is a tremendous increase in the number of users in the last one year, which according to the figures is 25 percent rise.  20 million people use internet every day while only 2 percent of the total rural Indian population use internet. Around 71 percent of Indians use mobile phones whereas TV users are just 61 percent.  On the other hand, there are 31 percent of people who not even heard of the Internet. Male domination is seen in Internet usage as they are about 70 percent of the total Internet folks in India.
