260 Million Literates In India Cannot Read: Survey

Bangalore: Today, India has a mushrooming growth of educational institutions. These private institutes have come up mainly to focus on satisfying the needs of the students that are left untouched by government schools, since government schools lack quality education, regular teachers and are equipped with low infrastructure and facilities.

As such, many sections of the society are yet to get fully enlightened by the education. The rate of literacy in the country is unauthentic as the numbers are mostly based on a report given by parents and not by evaluating the child’s capability to read and write. 260 million people who are considered ‘literate’ as per the census still cannot read and write, reported Prahlad Shekhawat for The Hindu.

Though educational institutes like Hindutva-oriented schools and madrasas are available for those children who cannot afford private institute, no productive knowledge would come out of such schools as the teachings are typically based on a particular religion and its social and cultural value.
