Because of the rise in the price of petrol by a enormous 7.54 per liter, a number of political and trade organizations in Patna took out protest rallies to express their anger with the UPA government. "Now that they have raised the price of petrol, it is just a matter of days before they will announce a hike in diesel and cooking gas prices as well," the JD-U leader said, reported patnadaily.com.

Accusing the Congress-led UPA regime of protecting the interest of the big corporate houses, BJP and CPM activists protested in various parts of the Shimla against the hike in petrol prices. Shimla block BJP workers also staged a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner office against the hike.

In a mass protest against the skyrocketing petrol prices, Bhartiya Janta Party Mahila Morcha and Communist Party of India (CPI) members and their supporters gathered in front of the Udaipur Collectorate and burned down an effigy of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as well as the Congress banner.
