Bangalore: The most prominent discussion on the economies of the world, the World Economic Forum (WEF), is starting from today. This meet is held at Davos, Switzerland every year and this year it will be held from January 25 to 29, 2012. This is the 42nd installment of its kind. The theme of this year is - "The Great Transformation: Shaping New Models". This discussion is deemed as one of the principal global meets, where economic issues of various nations are talked about. This meet is also considered as a good way to connect and socialize with other nations. India, among other nations, has now become a regular member of this meet.  So, let us look at this major event of the month in details –

About World Economic Forum World Economic Forum (WEF) is a non-profit organization, situated in Geneva, Switzerland. WEF is held every year at Davos, which is a mountain resort in the Alps. It is an independent entity which discusses academic, business and political issues arising in different parts of the world in order to improve their present situations. This year, about 2,600 people from varied fields like – politics, business, academics and the media will meet to discuss burning issues, especially pertaining to the environment and health. Various regional meets are also organized by WEF in countries like – China, East Asia, Latin America and the United Arab Emirates. This meet is the brain-child of Klaus Schwab, a business professor at the Geneva University, in the year 1971. It was originally called "European Management Forum" but was renamed WEF in the year 1987. It is funded by 1,000 companies, each of which has an annual turnover of more than $5 billion. BBC News quotes Schwab; who calls WEF "a platform for collaborative thinking and searching for solutions, not for making decisions."
