Every Friday, employees at Facebook get a chance to question Mark Zuckerberg to get a feel for what's happening at the company. Google holds all-hands meetings on Friday, where Google's executives answer the questions by employees. Now Yahoo will hold similar meetings.

A startup or technology company spends a lot of money building out beautiful, sprawling offices, like that of Google's satellite office in London. Tech companies does everything to build out work spaces that employees will enjoy essentially living in.

16. Pair programming

Companies: Square, Facebook

Companies, like Square, uses a strategy called "pair programming”, in which two engineers are paired up to work together with a single screen, so that they can learn from each other. It's especially helpful when a young engineer is paired with a more experienced engineer.
