5. Sunil Bharti Mittal: Born on 23rd October 1957, Sunil Bharati Mittal, the son of Sat Paul (former MP), is an Indian Telecom Tycoon who is the Chairman, MD and the Group CEO of Bharati Enterprises. The company runs the largest GSM-Based mobile phone service in India, which is world’s fifth largest wireless company with over 190 million customers across 19 countries in Asia and Africa.

He graduated from Punjab University in 1976 and started Bharti, which now has about 30,000 employees. He has received Padma Bhushan, which is one of the India’s higest civilian awards. He has also received Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award in 2009. In the same year he was awarded the Global Economy Prize by The Keil Institute, Germany. In 2008, he was honored with U.S.-Indian Business Council’s Global Vision Award.

He is a member of the Prime Minister’s Council on Trade and Industry and serves on ita Sub-Committee on Promoting Financial Inclusion. He was also the Prisident of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the premier industry body in India for the year 2007 – 2008.
