7) Microwaves: FACT: Microwave cooking was discovered accidentally, when a candy bar melted in someone’s pocket.

Like many of today's great inventions, the microwave oven was a by-product of another product. It was during a radar-related research project around 1946, Dr. Percy Spencer, an engineer at the Raytheon Corporation, noticed something strange. He was testing a new vacuum tube called a magnetron, when he discovered that the candy bar in his pocket had melted. This made himcurious and so he tried another experiment. This time he placed some popcorn kernels near the tube and saw the popcorn kernels sputter, crack and pop all over his lab. The face of Dr. Spencer lit up with a logical scientific conclusion: the melted candy bar, the popcorn and even an exploding egg, were all attributable to exposure to low-density microwave energy. Thus, if an egg can be cooked that fast, then why not other food items and thus, experimentation began and the microwave was born.

8) Peanuts: FACT: Dynamite is made with Peanuts.

Though it sounds completely incredulous, peanuts are a component of dynamite. There are also various dynamites which are made without peanuts. Dynamite is made from Nitroglycerine, also known as Trinitroglycerine, and Glyceryl Trinitrate, an oily, explosive liquid made by nitrating a substance called Glycerol. Glycerol or glycerine is a thick liquid used in soaps, creams and food items. Glycerol is made of peanut oil, which is made from peanuts, thus, attributing the component of dynamites to peanuts.
