6. Microsoft Bought Skype

Microsoft acquired the internet telephonic service Skype for $8.5 billion in May 2011.

The company hasn’t reserved Skype for itself, but left it free and it’s still available for all platforms including Mac. Microsoft never pushed any of its products through Skype but eventually it may integrate the service into the products including its O.S and Xbox. The service has recently passed 40 million concurrent users and has more than 663 million registered users.
