10 Nations with Highest Gun Ownership

Bangalore: “Force and mind are opposites; morality ends where a gun begins,” said novelist Ayn Rand. In an era where the misuse of guns and ammunitions are leading to massacres, it is no more a place of nonviolence. Arms and ammunitions leave bitter memories and scar the human race for ages to come. Here are the 10 countries with highest gun ownership, as listed by yahoo.com.

USA:
USA tops the list of countries with highest gun ownership and this no surprise! The United States owns around 270 million guns. The rate of private gun ownership in the U.S. is 88.8 firearms per 100 people. Further, the homicides rate in the U.S. is 4.96 per 100,000.

Contrastingly, a recent poll found that the number of U.S. homes with a gun has gradually declined since the 1970s with only 34 percent of U.S. households owning a gun in 2012, reported rt.com.  The U.S. is also having a raging gun-control debate following the horrific killings in Newtown, Connecticut.

Serbia:
Serbia takes the second spot on the list with a rate of private gun ownership of 58.2 for guns per 100 residents. Serbia has one of the world's highest per capita gun ownership rates in the world.

It was noted that Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic was joined by EU and other international officials in December last year for the ceremonial destruction of some of the 17,000 rifles and handguns in custody or otherwise collected under a joint program with the United Nations and European Union.
