#5 1909 Honus Wagner Baseball Card
Sold for: $1.265 million
Year: 2000
As part of its T206 series from 1909 to 1911, the American Tobacco Company (ATC) designed and sold a John Peter “Honus” Wagner card. It was done without the consent of the baseball player, who asked to stop its distribution as he didn’t want his image to be used to sell cigarettes. ATC immediately stopped and only 57 cards went to the public making it one of the most valuable baseball cards. Michael Gidwitz, an eBay auctioneer, picked up one of the cars for $600,000 and managed to flip it for $1,265,000.
