Vanila Mathur Singh

The 17th Congressional District has gained added attraction as another Indian-American Vanila Mathur Singh-- an associate professor at Stanford University's School of Medicine-- has entered the fray from the Republican Party.

Dr. Vanila Mathur Singh, a political apprentice, has thrown her hat in the ring for this big challenge, where two Democrats like longtime incumbent Mike Honda, and challenger Ro Khanna, are currently eyeing for the top slot.

Singh is the first Republican to enter the fray, which currently includes two other Democrats battling each other in the Silicon Valley. The June 3rd open primaries will decide the two top vote-getters who will compete in the November elections.

Singh also stated that, it was collective decision by her and her husband to run for office after a Washington, D.C. meeting arranged by Chicago businessman and party activist Shalabh Kumar.
