10 Indian American Researchers Named Sloan Research Fellows

3. Sohini Ramachandran

Sohini is the assistant professor of biology, ecology and evolutionary biology at Brown, who is also a faculty member in the Center for Computational Molecular Biology. She did research addressing problems in population genetics and evolutionary theory by using human as the study system. She received her PhD in biological sciences from Stanford University and completed graduation degree in Mathematical and Computational Sciences from the same university.

4. Shwetak N. Patel

Patel is an assistant professor at the University of Washington, in the department of computer science and engineering. He focuses his research on areas such as Human-Computer Interaction, Ubiquitous Computing, and User Interface Software and Technology. Recently, he conducted studies on developing low-cost sensing systems for the home, known as Infrastructure Mediated Sensing. Patel received his PhD in the year 2008 from Georgia Institute of Technology in computer science. He was honoured with TR-35 award in 2009 and also received MacArthur Foundation Fellowship and Microsoft Research Faculty Fellowship in 2011.
