5. French Military Victories

In 2003, Steve Lerner, a student from Toronto created a fake Google page for the search result “French Military Victories.” Anybody searching for the particular phrase will be redirected into a Google page that says “your search French military victories did not match any documents. Did you mean French military defeats?” 

6. Rick Santorum

In May 2003, Gay rights activist and sex columnist Dan Savage held an online contest among his readers to define the word “Santorum.” It was in response to the ‘anti-gay’ comments made by then U.S. senator Rick Santorum. Savage then announced the winning entry which defined “Santorum” and made a website that host the sexually explicit definition for the word. As a result, any search for “Rick Santorum” displayed that site. In 2011, Santorum asked Google to remove the definition from search index, which the company refused saying its limitations.
