The Law: The military government of the country doesn’t want the local people to connect to the internet. That’s why the internet access is highly limited and controlled. Government first charges a heavy amount for getting you connected to internet. Once you get a connection, the charge will be on hourly basis. Even many native businesses have no internet connection due to the heavy charges. Importing modems without government’s consent is banned

The speeds are also limited to keep tab on every user. Many websites related to human rights, pornography, political oppositions and sites promoting democracy is blocked. But many of the internet cafes in the country bypass the government’s proxy servers using software.

 

Penalties: Once if you are caught for violating any law, the minimum period of imprisonment will be 15 years! According to Reporters Without Borders, an organization for freedom of Press and Information, at least 15 journalists including internet activists are in detention. Most of them were judged for imprisonment up to 65 years!
