10 Best Tech Rivalries Ever
#6 Apple VS Google
And Google replaced Dell on Job’s bete noire radar. The company once again raised Jobs’ ire with its Android OS, which Jobs accused of being a direct rip-off of Apple’s iOS. Jobs told Isaacson (Job’s biographer), “I’m going to destroy Android, because it’s a stolen product. I’m willing to go thermonuclear war on this … I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple’s $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong.” The bad blood didn’t stop Google from offering a tribute to Jobs on its homepage, after his death in 2011.
#5 Apple VS Adobe
Jobs not only clashed with titans, but also pointed his guns at Adobe, a comparative nonentity. Jobs didn’t think much of Adobe Flash and refused to provide for it on Apple devices. Jobs at a company meeting said that he thought Adobe was lazy, stating “They have all this potential to do interesting things and much more, but they just refuse to do, whenever a Mac crashes, more often than not it’s because of Flash.” Though wounded by Jobs potshots at it, Adobe did retort in a witty way via an ad campaign, which stated “What we don’t love is anybody taking away your freedom to choose what you create, how you create it and what you experience on the web.” By 2011 it seems Adobe has buried the hatchet.
