#3 Zappos

When it was founded in 1999, Zappos the online shoe and apparel shop was named ShoeSite.com. At the beginning, it only dealt with shoes. But as the business spread to apparels and other stuff, they found it difficult to carry on with the name. So the team decided to use a variation of the word “shoe” in Spanish. They finally settled with Zappos, which actually originated from ‘Zapatos.’

 

#2 Nintendo

Nintendo, the gaming giant adapted the name which comprises everything. The three words “Nin” “ten” “do” is Japanese version for what means “we do all that we can, as best as we can, and await the results. Quite beautiful, is it?

Two interesting versions exist about the naming ceremony of World’s most popular search engine, Google.

First one is that Larry Page and Sergey Brin went for the name 'Googol,’ which meant 1 followed by 100 zeros. But when they submitted their project report to an investor, the he gave a cheque which was payable to ‘Google,’ and hence the name.

The second version is more interesting. As the co-founders searched for availability of the name ‘googol,’ their colleague mistakenly spelled the word as "google" and registered the website. Anyway Larry and Sergey liked the name and decided to go with it.
