Changing face of BI to rake in increased revenue of $11 mil by 2012 in Indian markets India, being a country with an unparalleled population of working minds, has seen millions of decisions made in her history, that just hinged on "gut feelings" of the people making them. These people were seen as managers, and after taking that first risk, they later made decisions based on their "previous experiences". This era however, allows managers to make decisions that are accurate, and based on scientific research, and facts, with the help of BI, which promotes shorter product and service life cycles, quicker revenue growth, and the ability to find where value is created in the business. But before the advent of 2011, there was one problem—even though BI seemed to be the answer to a prayer, it was complicated, cumbersome, and everything but light-weight. In 2011 we witness the dawn of a new era—one where the 'ease of use' surpasses 'functionality' for the first time as the BI platform’s influential business users made most of the BI purchasing decisions, "...most often choosing easier to use data discovery tools over traditional BI platforms — with or without IT's consent," said Bhavish Sood, research director at Gartner (a world- leading information technology research and advisory company). BI customers wanted their tools to be as fun, quick, and easy to use as the other personal apps and tools that they used and valued every day. When every other application for everything else was intuitive and extensible, 'why not BI?' they thought—and although this question is yet to be addressed by the majority of organizations in the area of BI-based mobile apps, things look hopeful with the increased availability of Apple products such as the iPad and iPhone. They wanted BI to combine this user-friendly approach, with reliability, as well robustness for their data that was volatile, diverse, and difficult to handle because of its vastness and variation as well... And so now, the combination of social and content analytics with in-memory technology opens up exciting platforms that exhibit extreme data volumes and consumer-oriented tools that put smiles on everybody's faces. These functionalities that not only help you process data, but to analyse and deliver it effectively at the same time, make BI more valuable, and complement its growth as a decision platform instead of as a information delivery system. Analysts from Gartner said that despite expectations of an economic slowdown, the market for BI platforms will remain one of the fastest growing software markets, because of the factors that changed the face of BI. Firms continue to turn to BI as a vital tool for smarter, more manageable, agile and efficient business as it increases its current usage scenario from just an information delivery mechanism. "The BI market has remained strong because the dominant vendors continue to put BI, analytics and performance management at the centre of their messaging, while end-user organisations largely continue their BI projects, hoping that resulting transparency and insight will enable them to cut costs and improve productivity and agility down the line," said Bhavish. "It's a sign of the strategic importance of BI that investment remains strong." Gartner predicts the BI market to reach revenues of 81.5 million dollars by 2012, a spurt of growth over the 70.5 million in 2011.
