  • Over €194 million has been invested, with Phase 2 construction approved and expected to complete by 2028.
  • India now hosts over 40% of SAP’s global R&D workforce, reinforcing its role in SAP’s AI and cloud innovation strategy.

German software giant SAP inaugurated its new campus, the India Innovation Park, in Bengaluru, marking a major milestone in its global expansion. Spread across 41 acres in Devanahalli near Kempegowda International Airport, the facility will be SAP’s second-largest R&D hub after its headquarters in Germany.

The newly opened campus underscores India’s strategic importance in SAP’s global operations. Currently, 27 acres of the total land have been developed and are already operational. The site has capacity to accommodate up to 14,000 employees once fully complete. Presently, 3,200 employees have moved into the campus, with another 4,500 expected to join in the initial phase. Construction of Phase 2, already approved, is slated to be completed by Q2 or Q3 of 2028, with the total cost of the campus exceeding €194 million.

“This Innovation Park is designed to bring together our customers, partners, academia, startups, and communities. For us, this is the beating heart of co-innovation”, said Sindhu Gangadharan, Managing Director of SAP Labs India and Head of Customer Innovation Services, at the inauguration event attended by employees, partners, and government officials.

This is SAP’s second campus in Bengaluru, the first being located in Whitefield. The expansion aligns with the trend of global technology companies strengthening their R&D presence in India. Bengaluru alone hosts 875 Global Capability Centers (GCCs), contributing 34% of India’s GCC workforce. According to a NASSCOM-Zinnov report, India’s GCC sector is projected to grow from $64.6 billion in FY24 to $99-105 billion by 2030.

Earlier this year, Google opened a new campus in Bengaluru, and Microsoft is developing its largest R&D center in Noida, signaling continued confidence in India’s innovation potential.

SAP, which became Europe’s most valuable listed company in March 2025, has been transforming its business by pivoting to cloud services and AI-powered enterprise solutions. The company serves over 440,000 customers globally, including 98 of the world’s top 100 corporations, and its client base generates over 80% of global commerce.

In India, SAP employs over 17,000 professionals across Bengaluru, Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Delhi. Notably, more than 40% of SAP’s global R&D workforce is based in India, reinforcing the country's role as a vital innovation engine for the 53-year-old tech leader.
