Bangalore  : In a latest circular released by Commissioner of Police, cops have been asked to take severe action against residents who fail to finish the verification process of new tenants. With Ganeshotsav around the area, Mumbai police has determined to make strict move against people who rent out their flats and guesthouses without recording at the local police station. Till now, cops have booked 18 people in the western suburbs.

According to officials, the police stations in the Mumbai city received recently a circular from the commissioner of Police that to take strict action against flat holders who do not inform about the tenants at the local police station and Rakesh instructing them to be more heedful. This year, till now cops have arrested four residents in Oshiwara and six in Versova for failing to register them in local police station after renting out their apartments/flats.

Senior Inspector, Subhash Velle from Oshiwara police station informed that “we have set up notices at societies and are also patrolling these localities and informing society members to report police before renting out flats, guest houses and commercial places even if it is for a couple of days.” Cops say that residents get easily registered when they take flats through an agent, when owners rent out their flats on their own, they don’t finish the check methodology, making it trouble for them to keep track of such flats. He also told that “we are also scheduling to carry out surprise checks at flats and commercial places to keep an eye on any suspicious activity.”

Cops are paying special consideration in localities like Versova, Oshiwara, Bandra and Juhu which are posh localities in Mumbai and where many people from abroad prefer to stay. Special group have been allocated to keep eye on these areas mainly. Many sources said that these posh areas are on the radar as it is easier for residents to conceal in posh areas and agents also earn substantial commission.

Many occupants have welcomed the drive by police, as they feel that it will help cops capture residents who can cause trouble in the locality. Recently, Versova police had arrested four individuals from the same locality, demonstrating that agents in the area are giving out flats to individuals without finishing verification work.

No Strugglers:

Recently, many residential societies have determined not to rent out flats to individuals who come to the city to make a name in Bollywood.  According to them, if an individual is a struggler, then he/she evidently cannot afford to rent a flat in their society.

A recent moved actress Urvashi Solanki said that “Big celebrities can bear to stay in posh localities like Bandra and Juhu, but what about newcomers to the industry they can only prefer cheap apartments in areas like Oshiwara, Versova and Lokhandwala? Even real estate agents charges twofold.”

“Most established actors prefer posh areas like Bandra, Vile Parle and Juhu to stay, while newcomers prefer Oshiwara” an agent Saghir Ahmed Sagar from Andheri stated. Nevertheless, security is an imperative aspect that ought to be followed at any cost and the recent decision by cops to pull up powers for non registration is extremely valid.
