In recognition of Edwin Lutyens’ contribution to architectural wonders, New Delhi is also known as ‘Lutyens’ Delhi.’

The chief architect of this iconic residence was Edwin Lutyens, often described as "the greatest British architect,” in collaboration with Herbert Baker, who was also the main designer of several monuments in New Delhi. In recognition to Edwin Lutyens’ contribution to architectural wonders, New Delhi is also known as ‘Lutyens’ Delhi.’ The most prominent and distinctive feature of Rashtrapati Bhavan is its dome, which is superimposed on its structure. The building was mainly designed as the official residence of the Viceroy of India which later became the official residence of the President of India.
