Acquiring Land in India May Get Much Tougher

Bangalore: Although getting a land in India is not very easy but it isn’t that difficult as well. However, acquiring a land will get tougher for those looking to acquire land to build factories, special economic zones, power plants and highways. Moreover, if a proposed bill in parliament comes into effect, purchasing land for industrial and infrastructure projects will be next to impossible, reports Prasenjit Bhattacharya of The Wall Street Journal.

The blanket of tension has taken everybody under its cover, especially the industrialist and some in the government. They are worried about panel’s recommendation for the Land Acquisition Bill, which is yet to be introduced in the next session of Parliament that starts in the month of July. If the bill comes into action, then the investments might halt and the bill is likely to replace the existing law that regulates the land buying process in India.

Realtors are mainly worried about the panel’s suggestion that the government will no more help in land buying process for the private sector. Alternatively, the panel has suggested that the government will interfere for negotiations with landowners, prefreabely for owners like farmers or people classified as tribals and mainly only those those projrcts that ar e beneficuial to the society like

The standing committee asked in its report that “Since there is no question of state acquisition of labour or capital, why should the state at all be involved in acquiring land for private enterprises or even public enterprises?” reports The Wall Street Journal.

Additionally, the report also highlighted that the government should not intervene in particular projects which are interlinked between government authorities and private sector.
