The Journey : Early Days to How I Got Here

I started my career as an Erection and Service Engineer in Textile Machineries. Then, I moved into the Creative Outerwear where I was a Production Manager for the export unit (Apparels). Then, I played a several roles like Assistant Manager, Manager and Head – Quality Assurance.

Currently, I am the Head - Quality Assurance at Arvind Retail and also the Head - Production Development and Technical at Arvind Lifestyle brands.

Decisions That Mattered

There are two important career decisions I have taken:

a. First is moving from typical production base - export unit to brands/ retail Quality Assurance.

b. Next is moving from textile engineering base to Apparel technology by opting for specialization/ higher studies after working for two years

Innovating and developing new products right from conception to delivery to customer

Two Years Down the Line

As a Brand Head or Head of a Research and Development wing of a Multinational Company... it can be in Fashion or any other industry.

What I Learnt Along the Way

Be always ready for the change/ new role. Always keep the second line ready so that one can hand over the responsibilities and move on to take new role.

Changing Days: Lessons Learnt

It is more focused with lots of responsibilities. Responsibilities - the performance of 4 teams and partly responsible for the profitability of the organization.

Trends to Watch Out For

a. We are using the best of the ERP solution for retail... RETEK by Oracle and IBM
b. I have access to WGSN which is one of the leading fashion portals from where we can download the future trends in fashion all over the world.
c. Would like to use the available mobile technology to help in monitoring quality from supplier to consumer.
d. Also the change in mobile computing will have lot of influence to Apparels and Non Apparels (fashion). I see future garments with inbuilt mobile / mobile computers. Being in Product development, I am looking at combining both into my products.

Must Focus Areas For the Future

Fashion industry - Wearable electronics would be in, so I see a merger of fashion (Apparels/ Non Apparels) with mobile technology and Nano technology. I see a lot of potential in this domain.

Last But Not Least

THE WORLD IS CHANGING AT ENORMOUS SPEED. THINK OF UNTHINKABLE, IMAGINE THE MOST UNIMAGINABLE, AND BE READY FOR THE IMPOSSIBLE.
