Project 1: BSR Development
Project Description BSR, Base Station Router Brief description:
• UMTS BSR is a family of base station products from
Alcatel-Lucent targeted as an IP based decentralized scalable,
high speed data only offer, evolving to support VOIP and
IMS • BSR collapses GGSN, SGSN, RNC and Node B in one
Box • The advantages are minimize signaling and user data
Latency • Overcomes key challenges of delivering 3G services,
particularly HSDPA • Allows network coverage and capacity to
be extended without impact to existing network • Is an ideal
mobile access delivery mechanism for IP-based IMS
applications • Enables new mobile data applications not
possible or not easy on traditional macro networks • Allows
Operators to profitably deliver high speed data
applications. Project Platform Software of BSR has a
subsystem known as COAM that provides Common OAM functionalities.
This subsystem consists of Common Controller, Message Router,
Peripheral Unit Controller, Error Reporter, Overload and Audit
manager, Heartbeat monitor and test port tasks. These subsystems
had to be ported onto Linux from VxWorks as it was the platform
requirement for Home BSR. Client LUCENT Duration 10
months Contribution My role was to port Main Controller (MC).
The functions of MC are: MC initializes all other
subsystems of C-OAM and allows applications to get initialized.
MC receives and processes initialization messages from the
OAM. It starts Clock monitor on LIU, Enables timers for
recovery algorithm, performs audit request from the audit manger.
It performs Parameter Update and Parameter Audit messages
to the Application. It reads and keeps inventory data. It
also allows reset of URC from any maintenance port and lost of
heartbeat with Integrity Monitor. Domain UMTS, 3G, BSR, Layer
1 and Layer 2 Protocols Technology Skills C, C++ Operating
System UNIX, RTOS(VxWorks) Present team from oct 07 to
till date: Intelligent Networks: T1 Configuration Setup
for the Tier 1 customer of Comverse: Single point of contact
for the Recharge Agent Fixes which involves changing the
parameters of the Recharge Agent on both IBM and HP SDP and also
making the IBM SDP switch over process smoother. Patch
Loading in IN System (TRM, MMU, MSU). Responsible for Remote
Site Monitoring for IN system. Voice Mail Systems: Service
Pack Upgrade Project for Voice Mail Servers: Involves critical
software patch installation on global voice mail accounts of
Comverse to eliminate data integrity
errors & thereby enhance system stability. Responsible for
Software Pack Installation for VMS Systems. Responsible for
Global Scanning of VMS system. Pre-Production audit and
implementation of missing service packs. FunDial
Systems: FunDial Upgradation of Apache and Sambha
servers: Involves upgradation of Apache and Sambha servers on
the Comverse FunDial System (FD) to enhance
the Application servers for accessing the UNIX file system and
also to enhance the features of the FunDial
system. Involved in the critical software upgrade on FunDial
systems worldwide, which involves database
upgrade and the Application & Network servers upgrade.
