Family Background
I belong to Gujarat but spent all my childhood in Delhi. I have also lived in Pune and Chennai for a few years. I am married and have a son. I am currently settled in Baroda, Gujarat.
Growth Strategy:
Delegating work to my team and ensuring that I have enough capacity and time to keep up with the market trends and at the same time allowing ample opportunities to my subordinates to learn, perform and grow into more senior roles. Also I keenly contribute towards the company strategy when relevant.
The Decisions That Matter
I would say that the most important decision has to been to choose the right professional work - work that is challenging and that suits my personal appetite for creativity and innovation. It is vital to be satisfied with your work profile in order to be successful at the work you do.
Prized Accomplishment(s):
The entire Apps development program that we initiate in early 2011 has been a phenomenal success and has been a very satisfying venture. This success has helped Investis in moving even further ahead of the rest of the competition in our market. In just 18 months we have a large Apps portfolio.
Plans For The Future:
In 2 years time, I see myself doing more of the same - which might sound boring but it isn't. Product development and innovation is something that I am very passionate about and will continue to strive to achieve more in this area in the short term.
Done Differently:
No, I am very happy and proud of my of decision to pursue my career in IT - Product Management and even if given a choice, I would not change anything.
Changes In The Professional Environment:
Yes, it has to some extent and it has mostly been for the good. People are more professional, technologies have evolved a great deal. Adaptability is the key in today's world and we have to be nimble to accept changes and embrace everything new that help things happen better.
Required Reading:
mashable.com , infoworld.com , simplyzesty.com , techcrunch.com , readwriteweb.com are some of the websites which publish articles and news that are really forward looking and have great content.
The Journey So Far:
It has been a fantastic journey. There have obviously been challenges but I have had great colleagues and teams and their support and endevour to achieve new heights has made my professional journey all the more splendid. I continue to work with people who are great at what they do.
Job Profile:
As Head of Product Management, I have the overall responsibility of managing Investis' wide range of product portfolio - this includes development of new products, upgrading existing and supporting them. The job role also includes market research, managing a team of product managers.
Advice For New Professionals:
Follow your passion. Try and enter into the career path that excites you - even if that takes a bit longer, try and assess your strengths and play to them and build your career around what you do best. Do not follow the crowd as at the end of the day it is your skills that will decide where you get.
Role Model:
I am inspired by David Blaine (the magician for his will power), Steve Jobs (for his relentless urge for innovation), Jacques Kallis (the south african cricketer for being such a legend and yet being so humble) and above all I am inspired by my father (for being a great human being).
Career Profile:
My current role demands assuming broader responsibilities which includes overseeing all of the product development activities, planning and developing strategy around future goals of the team and the portfolio of products. My earlier role as Product Manager has fewer broad level responsibilities.
Degrees That Matter:
I think PMP and Scrum master certifications would be useful to understand the project management principles and Scrum/Agile methodologies in detail.
