Siddharth Paul
Sales Operations Leader
TATA Power Solar Limited
The Decisions That Matter
I left home at the age of 18 to pursue my grads and post grads. Coming from a small town in upper Assam it was very difficult for me to leave my family for a career and living. I feel that was the most important career decision I had taken along the way.
Job Profile:
I am currently taking care of Sales operations for the entire country for industrial solutions vertical of Tata power solar. It’s a crucial role as it encompasses the entire gamut of sales function starting from identifying opportunities, market expansion & business growth by working on various strategic initiatives, creating feasibility study and Go to Market Strategy
Leadership qualities
As a leader, I feel that the most important skill is predictiveness. One should be able to predict the business, market conditions, team performance to be a successful leader.
Off course as stated by John Maxwell, “ A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.”
Ensuring growth
Continuous self-evaluation and learning is the key of developing and growing as a leader. As a leader one needs to undertake self-challenges and grow a capacity to take calculated risks.
My advice to professionals
My advice will be that professionals should give importance to EQ along with IQ. Don’t take hasty decisions for career and stay focused at your long term goals.
Connecting dots by avoiding mistakes
Learning from past experiences helps a leader to avoid mistakes in future. Learn, unlearn and re-learn all constitutes learning.
Influenced by
My mother has influenced me the most. Its very true that the best management lessons are learnt at home. She has managed multiple roles to be a ideal housewife, a mother, a professional and a daughter.
Handing Grievances
The best way to handle grievances is to empathise and not sympathise. I would like to see the issue from his/her view point and come to a win win situation.
My view on India technological development
We are lacking as we link everything to a economic value and in that process we tend to lack innovation. Companies like Apple and Google were purely innovations. The youth must be encouraged to innovate and learn skills which they like and are ready to own.
My family background
“Change is the only inevitable thing that I have experienced from my childhood. My Dad rose from the from the position of a newspaper vendor and finally retired as a Bank manager. My mom started her career after marriage in the IT department. My parents not only have grown in their career but also motivated me to grow in my career. Now I am happily married and by God’s grace will soon be experiencing a new world through my child.
