Could you tell us briefly about your family background?
I belong to a middle class family. My father was working as an Assistant Engineer with Uttrakhand Power Corporation Ltd. There was a nice educational environment at home created by my mother, thereby, we three brothers were completely focussed upon building our respective careers.
Points of inflection
The inflection point was when I got admission in IIT Roorkee to pursue Masters in Technology course in Applied Geophysics. The IIT culture is infused and directs me to do smart hard work for any role I am playing in an organisation.
Plans for the Future
I am focussing completely in acquiring as much knowledge and experience as required to pursue my dreams of becoming an entrepreneur. My short term goals are to strengthen my position in GIS industry. My long term goals are to start my own consulting enterprise.
The Journey So Far
I enrolled in M.Tech Applied Geophysics at IIT Roorkee in 1998. I was selected in campus by ESRI India as System Executive and joined it in September 2001. I gained more than ten years of experience in GIS architecture, design, development and implementation. I have worked for INCA,WHO,RAMTECH,RMSI.
Required Reading
I am working as a Technical Architect with IBM Australia and having more than ten years of experience in GIS industry as developer. QA is an important part of software development life cycle. There is a lot of reading stuff available on the web.
Role Model
I am inspired by Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam. He is a great leader, inspirer and thinker. He is capable of inducing innovative thinking in others.
Degrees that Matter
I have M.Tech degree in Applied Geophysics and ESRI certifications in GIS domain.
A Fine Balance:
If work is the action you perform, the family and life is the fuel for that action. You can not act without fuel. I give equal weightage to both work and life.
Changes in the industry
The GIS industry has evolved in a surprisingly fast manner within a decade. Many universities have started earlier little know Geographic Information Science courses.
Most Important Decisions
I focussed on development and built on the skills needed to develop a GIS software to meet customer requirements. The decision to stick to programming had been a key decision so far.
Parting thoughts
I would like to thank Silicon India team for the informative and fantastic work.
Currently working at
I am working as Advisory IT Architect with IBM Australia and currently based in Perth, Western Australia. I am the interface to client and dealing with requirements, architecture, design and development of custom GIS applications to help building a near to perfect solution.
Most Important Lessons
Keep dreaming. Define the goals. Stick to your goals. Have a spiritual balance in life.
Current and Previous Responsibilities
In the current role as a Technical Architect there is a greater responsibility for a good architecture of applications to meet the requirements. In my previous role as Assitant Project Manager (GIS Software) in RMSI, I used to develop more on my own.
