The Journey : Early Days to How I Got Here
I entered into Software Testing during the time when testing started emerging as an independent profession. I have grown along with the growth of the industry in the last 15 years.
Decisions That Mattered
The decision to change the companies and take new, higher role in 2003, and 2006 are considered very strategic in my career growth.
Inflection Points in My Life
The movement from Banking to IT during 2001 is the greatest inflection point in my career. Several friends of mine advised against this drastic move but I took the risk.
Work and Role: Then and Now
Earlier, I was into Test Consultancy, Automation Assessment, delivery Management for test automation projects. Currently, my role is to build the test competency across the testing group.
Two Years Down the Line
The testing is moving to the next level of maturity. Only people with technical and business skills can survive the emerging difficult situations. I am confident of emerging an expert in all critical areas of testing.
What I Learnt Along the Way
You should be technically sound to effectively manage a team. We should clearly articulate the benefits of the projects we executed to the client. We should be ready to say “No” when it is required.
Changing Days: Lessons Learnt
Testing has grown at different level and types and the expectation of the business has grown from just validating the software to advise on business growth patterns.
Trends to Watch Out For
Life cycle automation, Model Based Testing, Session Based Test Management, Business process packages, packaged applications are some areas which are getting attention from clients. The testing community should improve their business knowledge, technical expertise and program management expertise to survive in this new trend.
My Advice If You are Starting Out
Compelling business proposition, excellent collaterals, technically sound second line resources, focused approach on niche areas.
Must Focus Areas for the Future
Model Based testing, Life cycle automation, application security testing, performance engineering, package application expertise, Analytics.

May increase your confidence levels, will help to improve your profile. PMP, CSTE, ISTQB etc.,
