Thoughts on Education system of our country

The aim of education should not be just to impart some skill for earning money. It should also focus on shaping the character of children. It should stress the need for becoming responsible citizens in order to build a great nation.

In ancient India students were taught both worldly knowledge and spiritual knowledge. In today's education spiritual education is neglected. This is the reason why our country is facing such a moral crisis.

Ancient Indian wisdom has stood the test of time and scientific scrutiny. People all over the world are eager to learn more about our heritage. But an average Indian does not know much about his own country. To give just one example the law of gravity has been mentioned in ancient Indian texts long before Newton discovered it.

In ancient India after completing students were told to speak the truth and lead a righteous life. They were told to revere mother as God and father as God. We are in a mess as we have neglected Dharma. We should revive it.

Couple of years from now

I would like to see myself educating parents about the need to adopt holistic approach to child and teen health. I would be happy to talk about the scientific evidence for existence of soul and reincarnation. Many people are still unaware of the extensive research in the fields of paranormal phenomenon and parapsychology.

Though about one hundred medical schools in USA have regular courses on spirituality in India we are yet to introduce this. Doctors should understand all dimensions of health if they have to treat people properly. Specialization and super-specialization are necessary but our primary aim should be to help people remain healthy both physically and mentally.

It is essential to educate teachers about the spiritual aspect of health. I would be happy to interact with teachers and evolve a course on spirituality which is scientific and universal. If parents and teachers try to instill values in children they will grow up into healthy adults and create healthy society.

My family background

I come from a middle class family with firm belief in human values. I have two brothers and one sister.

I am married to a housewife. We do not have children.

Important lesson learned

We should take charge of our lives. We should not be afraid of committing mistakes but learn from mistakes and move forward.

Leading a balanced life is very important. While pursuing worldly ambitions we should not neglect our spiritual development..

More about myself

We should stop being a country of buck passers and become a country of buck holders. I have often heard people praising other countries. The people in those countries are also human beings. We too can achieve what they have.

We are busy criticizing and finger pointing. Everyone should analyze himself and strive to be a better human being and a better citizen. India is what it is because of Indians.

The ancient wisdom of this country has stood the test of time and scientific scrutiny. Everyone should try to learn at least something about the great heritage of this country.

While science and technology are important we cannot neglect spirituality. We can enjoy peace and prosperity only by combining science and spirituality.

Change should begin at the level of individual and family. We cannot bring about social transformation without transforming families. We should learn to be responsible at every level-as parents, as teachers, as professionals and as citizens.

My strongest skill

It is my ability to understand health in all its dimensions. While specialization in medicine is necessary we should not stop looking at a patient as a whole. Often we come across a situation where a patient is thoroughly examined by a group of specialists and declared as normal while the patient continues to suffer.

Brief description about me

I am a Pediatrician who believes in holistic approach to child health giving sufficient importance to physical, psychological and spiritual dimensions of health. The recent research in paranormal phenomenon and parapsychology has provided enough evidence for the existence of soul. Hence we can no longer confine ourselves to treating body and mind neglecting the soul.

Without giving sufficient importance to spiritual development of children we cannot protect their mental health. If we do not protect the mental health of children they will grow up to become adults with sick minds. A society of such people will be a sick society.

I am of the firm opinion that the current medical education should be reviewed to incorporate scientific spirituality which includes the evidence for the existence of soul. It is also imperative to review the WHO definition of health and include the spiritual dimension of health. We must combine science and spirituality for health and happiness.

My achievements

I have started my own website to educate people about the need for holistic approach to child health. The site has more than two hundred pages and covers several important aspects of child health, common childhood problems and some of the diseases affecting children. The site is accredited by the HONcode.

I have started an online petition to the WHO requesting the authorities to review the definition of health and include the spiritual dimension giving reasons for this.

I have completed an online course on Adolescent health conducted by AKN Sinha institute. I have also completed an online course on Ayurvedic child health.

I have presented an article on Mental health and Indian classical music and have also given a radio talk on Music and Health.

I have also published articles on online directories. I have started a group on facebook called Society For Spiritual Development to educate people about scientific evidence for existence of soul and reincarnation.
