The Journey So Far:
I worked with Macquarie Investment Bank during my undergraduate in Economics at the London School of Economics. Subsequently, I worked with the World Bank, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Supreme Court of India and the D.C. Superior Court during my Juris Doctor at the George Washington University Law School. After graduating with Honors from GW Law, I worked in international arbitration sector, and am now working with an immigration law firm in DC.
Plans For The Future:
I want to create a thriving DC practice and a strong presence for our firm in the DC Metro area.
Done Differently:
I don't think I would make any drastic changes.
Job Profile:
I am an associate at Brenman Immigration Law Firm, and am responsible for the firm's DC operations. I manage our firm's business development, client interaction, immigration case-load and office administration to expand our presence in the U.S.
Advice For New Professionals:
Diligence and sincerity goes a long way. Short-cuts may give faster results for a short time, but there is no alternative to hard-work in a long run.
The Decisions That Matter
1. I have always followed my pursuits at every point of life. This has allowed me to work with the World Bank, the US SEC, the Supreme Court of India, an international arbitration law firm, and now an immigration law firm. I would not have had such a diverse experience if I had given in to peer pressure and not followed my own passion at any stage.
2. I believe I could not have succeeded up until now without the support of my friends and family. They were always close to me, supportive of my efforts, and urged me to continue working sincerely towards my goals.
3. I believed in following my intuition to decide when to leave a company or a work place. My work at different places has given me a knack of learning when and how to exit a company. I have learned that exiting at the right time allows you to keep positive healthy relationships with the old companies.
Degrees That Matter:
Juris Doctor.
Career Profile:
My current responsibilities include business development, client management, immigration law research and website administration. My earlier profile of an Associate with Addis International Arbitration Firm focused more on international law research and writing.
Prized Accomplishment(s):
During my studies at the George Washington University Law School, I got this opportunity to represent the school in Germany for an international arbitration competition. The learning and training I received from that competition, and our subsequent performance in the competition makes me proud of my own accomplishments. I have used that learning in all my endeavors - whether as an international lawyer or as an immigration lawyer.
