About Sairam Gopalan
Started my sales career as a Medical Representative and did that for 2 years.
Then got in to IT Industry way back in 1988 so it has 21 wonderful years of solid sales, account management, business development experience. Started with Novell Netware based PC Servers as LAN (Locan Area Network) at Aurelec Data Processing Systems.
Then moved to Sonata Software Limited and have sold software products of most of the majors in India that includes Microsoft, Sco, Oracle, IBM, Lotus, Symantec ...
Headed the branch in Bangalore that was just then becoming the IT outsourcing hub and was responsible for Karnataka, Kerela & Goa (KKG region). Went on to become Business Manager in 1996 for Lotus Corporation / IBM and started looking at products plus Groupware consulting (workflow solutions) on Lotus Notes / MS Exchange with Outlook combo.
Moved to international IT services sales in 2000 and relocated to UK in 2001 and left UK and Sonata in 2003 to join CSS Corp.
CSS was then a 800 resources company. Have been in US since 2004 Aug.

software distribution products that Sonata Software was well
known. Bangalore was just budding to become a IT Outsourcing
destination of the world. From Texas Instruments India to Infosys
to SAP India to Phillips to Motorola to Tata IBM Global Services
(IBM Global Services now) were just opening up shops then or just
about to become bigger in operations. Have sold tons and tons of
software products from compilers to operating systems to
productivity applications to X Windows Terminal Emulation
Software to Assembler's from majors like Microsoft, Fox Software
(now part of MS), Oracle, Symantec, Central Point, Delrina, Logic
Works, SCO, Visionware, Banyan Vines .... Karnataka, Kerala &
Goa was one of the second largest region then and at times even
more than Maharashtra in sheer volume and revenue of software
distribution sales. Had solid some relationships with some of
the well known nationalized banks in Karnataka and Kerela who
will just buy from me and my team for any of their
products. One of the best period of my sales life. Started
as Sr Sales Co-ordinator in 1991 when Phaneesh Murthy (Ex Infosys
& now currently in iGate as CEO)hired me. Incidentally I am in
CSS Corp where he is as Director in the Board through him as
well.

drawing board. I am not sure whether Windows itself was out then
as I remember MS DOS & IBM PC DOS as popular and IBM
OS/2. Novell Netware was the popular Network Operating Systems
working on Intel 80286 & Intel 80386 based systems. People were
vary of Virus and used to buy just diskless notes (without floppy
drive - many do not even know how does a floppy drive or a disk
looks like now !!). A 80286 processor system with 640KB Ram /
1 MB was luxury then ? When every other manufacturer like HCL,
Siva, Wipro were selling 20 MB / 40 MB / 60 MB hard disk, Aurelec
had a 30 MB / 60 MB hard disk that made us known for our R & D
capabilities.
